Appearance: The most notable thing about Nero Wolfe is his corpulence. He is described in the novels as weighing a seventh of a ton. Being a man of his time (approximately the early 1950s) he wears suits of the cut of that time period, and wears yellow shirts exclusively. Being wealthy (and because of his remarkable size) they are all custom tailored. He is not a particularly handsome man now, although he might have been in his youth. However, he’s still meticulous about his own personal hygiene and is always clean shaven, with neatly combed hair and tidy clothing, so he doesn’t look off-putting except when he scowls, which is often.
Personality: Wolfe is a detective genius, but also extremely eccentric. He’s gruff on good days, though not outright mean, unless the situation calls for it, or if he’s especially perturbed. He sees most people as a necessary nuisance, and likes very few of them. In fact, there are only two things in life he really loves: food and orchids, and not just any food, he has come to expect only the absolute best. If there were something that could be said to be what he hates the most, it is a crying or, has he would say, hysterical woman. Normally he will be bullied by no one, but as soon as a woman becomes upset, he’s liable to go running from the room. He also has an intense sense of personal pride, and has taken on cases just to protect his own self esteem. Finally, Wolfe is a man of strict habits, usually keeping to a rigid daily schedule, with time for work squeezed in between the time he spends with his orchids and mealtime. He hates breaking his schedule, and even more, he hates leaving his own home for anyone. Needless to say, he is going to be extremely displeased with being dumped in a basically ruined version of New York.
Abilities: Detective genius and extensive knowledge on a wide variety of subjects. As a young man he travelled across Europe, Asia, and Africa, so he has plenty of life experience to draw from, despite the sequestered nature of his more recent years. He is also able to cook some if not most of the fine food he is accustomed to eating. Additionally, he is an expert in growing orchids, knowledge that would likely translate into practical gardening.
Weaknesses: He’s very vulnerable physically. He’s fought off human attackers in the past, but he’d be hard pressed to deal with something like a crab. With a weapon and a lot of luck, he might manage, but it’s still improbable. He would also have an equally hard time outrunning one. Finally, his “people skills” are unreliable. He can be charming and inviting sometimes, but other times he simply refuses to tolerate anyone.

History: There isn’t much known about Nero Wolfe’s past before he became a private detective in New York. He was born in Montenegro, and in his youth joined the army. He saw war and battle and wanted nothing more of it, and he also says it cured him of his youthful idealism. He went on to travel the world, though little is known about these travels. It is likely that at some point he had a romantic relationship with a woman that ended extremely badly, causing his current distaste for gender as a whole (though at one point, it’s stated that he mere treats women exactly the same as men). To most people it seems that he simply appeared in New York one day, declared himself a detective, and made a name for himself. As for ending up in future-New-York (relative to him, that is) he simply wakes up one day expecting it to be normal day, only to find himself in an extremely strange version of his brownstone on 35th Street.
